María Pia Chirinos is Director for Institutional Relations and Professor at the Department of Humanities at the University of Piura, Peru.  She received her Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Navarra in 1987, concentrating in the theory of knowledge and contemporary philosophy. Professor Alejandro Llano directed her thesis, entitled, “The Theory of Judgment in Brentano.” When she participated in her first STI meeting – Care Professions and Globalization – she was Professor of Philosophy at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, Italy.

Among her books are Un’antropologia del lavoro. Il domestico come categoria (The Anthropology of Work. Housework as a Category) and Claves para una antropología del trabajo (The Keys to an Anthropology of Work), and, most recently, a chapter in The Hand. Perception, Cognition, Action. Her research interests focus on the philosophy of work, care ethics and hospitality.
