The study of the good life or Eudaimonia has been a central concern at least since Aristotelian times, responding to the common human experience of seeking happiness. Paradoxically, the pursuit of happiness seems to permeate everything today (books, media, organizations, talks), yet remains very difficult to attain. In fact, there is little consensus regarding the very meaning of the word happiness. Even Seligman (2011), one of the fathers of positive psychology, has deemed the word almost meaningless from overuse.
The volume, printed in hard- and soft-cover editions and also available for free download by Open Access, contains an introduction written by its three co-editors, followed by 14 chapters arranged into four sections: Neuroscience and Health; Organization and Policies; Care and Flourishing; and Art, Fashion and Literature. The collection stems from the STI Experts Meeting “Human Flourishing: Neuroscience and Health, Organizations and Arts,” held online in January 2021.
