Dr Lowe is an award-winning photographer, whose work has been published in Time, Newsweek, Life, The Sunday Times Magazine, The Observer and The Independent, amongst others. He has covered breaking news the world over, including the fall of the Berlin Wall, Nelson Mandela’s release, famine in Africa, the conflict in the former Yugoslavia, and the destruction of Grozny. His research interests include photojournalism and documentary photography, media ethics, and the photographic representation of war, genocide, holocaust and war crimes. Latest research outputs include the books A Chronology of Photography (2018), Understanding Photojournalism (2017), and Photography Masterclass:Creative Techniques of 100 master photographers (2016). Other reasearch includes Testimonies of Light: Bearing Witness, Photography and Genocide (PhD Thesis, University of the Arts London, 2015), and ‘Picturing the perpetrator‘, in Picturing Atrocity: Photography in Crisis (Reaktion Books, 2012).
