Mark Coeckelbergh

Mark Coeckelbergh is Professor of Philosophy of Media and Technology at the Philosophy Department of the University of Vienna. He is a Member of the European Commission High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence; the Robotik-Rat, Austrian Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology; the Technical Expert Committee, Foundation for Responsible Robotics; and the Committee on Embedding Values into Autonomous Intelligent Systems, IEEE Global Initiative for Ethical Considerations in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems

He previously served as President of the Society for Philosophy and Technology and as Managing Director of the 3TU Centre for Ethics and Technology.

Professor Coeckelbergh’s most recent publications are AI Ethics. (2020), Introduction to Philosophy of Technology (2019), Moved by Machines (2019) and Using Words and Things: Language and Philosophy of Technology (2017). He is also the author of numerous articles in the area of philosophy of technology, in particular the ethics of robotics and ICTs.
