STI Experts Meetings
The Social Costs of Pornography

The Social Trends Institute is pleased to announce the release of Los costes sociales de la pornografía, published by Ediciones Rialp. It is the Spanish translation of The Social Costs of Pornography, published in 2010 by The Witherspoon Institute.

Los costes sociales de la pornografía is the fruit of a meeting held in Princeton University on December 2008. It was hosted by the Witherspoon Institute and cosponsored by STI and The Institute for the Psychological Sciences. The Experts Meetings provided a forum for discussion and debate for a wide rage of scholars, including sociologists, feminists, doctors, philosophers, lawyers and ethicists.

The papers in this volume attempt to document, analyze, and explain the social harms associated with pornography consumption, making the case for revisiting an issue that many would rather ignore. The authors differ in their scholarly training, political perspective, and religious affiliation. While they do not all diagnose the problem in the same way or agree to a single program of reform, they share the view that pornography in the Internet Age poses new problems and can inflict crippling harms. This book is a necessary guide to recent research on pornography today.
