Equality, Freedom of Conscience and the Common Good21 Mar 2011
STI sponsored the symposium Equality, Freedom of Conscience and the Common Good, held at Lincoln's Inn in London from March 17-19, 2011.
Leading scholars in law and philosophy from several countries met to discuss the principles of equality and non-discrimination and how they can be reconciled with freedom of conscience and religious liberty.
Discussions explored the meaning and basis of human equality, analyzed the nature of religious liberty and legal norms on equal treatment and non-discrimination, and considered the legitimacy of conscience-based exemptions from general laws. International panels of public policy experts and lawyers also discussed recent judicial and legislative developments relevant to these issues.
