Richard Hugman is a qualified social worker who spent over a decade in direct practice. His current research includes developing new approaches in ethics for the caring professions and the application of new ethical theory to research undertaken with refugees (in conjunction with the Centre for Refugee Research).
Professor Hugman is currently working with UNICEF Vietnam to advise the Vietnam Government on the development of professional social work. Richard is an international editorial advisor to Journal of Interprofessional Care, Social Work Education, Ethics & Social Welfare and Practice. He is a Fellow of the Australian Association of Gerontology. He currently serves as Professor of Social Work and as Head of the School of Social Work in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.
His most recent publications include Understanding International Social Work: A Critical Analysis, and New Approaches in Ethics for the Caring Professions.
