Peter Stamatov is sociologist and author of the award-winning The Origins of Global Humanitarianism: Religion, Empire, and Advocacy (Cambridge University Press, 2013).  His other work includes several academic articles studying from a historical perspective topics like social movements, ethnicity and nationalism, and art and politics.  After more than a decade as faculty member of the Yale Sociology Department, Peter is now living in Madrid.  His current research investigates the emergence of two distinct cultural logics of racial differentiation in the Franco-Iberian and Anglo-Dutch colonial world and the long-term interaction between political and religious authority in Europe.
