Dr Mihai's research covers political theory and law, in particular: political emotions, political judgment, the politics of memory, art and politics, gender, and theories of oppression. She is the principal investigator of an European Research Council Starting Grant, entitled: 'Illuminating the 'Grey Zone': Addressing Complex Complicity in Human Rights Violations'. Her publications include Negative Emotions and Transitional Justice (Columbia University Press, 2016), Reclaiming Democracy: Judgment, Responsibility and the Right to Politics (Co-edited with Albena Azmanova, Routledge, 2015), and On the Uses and Abuses of Political Apologies (Co-edited book with Mathias Thaler, Palgrave, 2014)
